Each state has its own election procedures. In New Mexico, the Green Party is a minor party and nominates by convention. We use the list of candidates published by the GPUS Presidential Candidate Support Committee (PCSC) for apportioning our delegates to the GPUS Presidential Nominating Convention. There are six people seeking the Green Party nomination for President of the United States. Some of them are not Greens but use the process that allows unaffiliated candidates or candidates with other parties to seek party lines in various states. Links to the candidates’ web sites are listed below. We plan to provide an opportunity to visit with candidates virtually later in the year.
GREENS: Jorje Zavala*, Randy Toler*, Jill Stein*, Jasmine Sherman*
Non-GREENS: Daví*, Robert Cooke
*Candidate or campaign has contacted GPNM.

We are sad to report the passing of Martin Zehr, aka Mato Ska. Mato Ska was a long-time Green and was serving on the GPUS National Committee and GPUS EcoAction Committee. He was a voice for a just electoral system, including speaking on C-SPAN as recently as this summer as a caller.
He was particularly concerned about water use. Part of his legacy is his work on the New Mexico State Water Plan. We continue to seek transparency from the state regarding the 2023 State Water Plan. In his own words,
The Green Party of New Mexico stands unalterably opposed to the exclusion of valued engagement and representation of the pueblos that have senior water rights dating back from “time immemorial.” The inclusion of the pueblos’ plans is significant and needs to be considered as a valued contribution in addressing the profound concerns of all New Mexicans.

The Green Party of the United States condemns the targeted attacks on civilians in the recent wave of violence in Gaza and Israel. We call for an immediate ceasefire, an immediate end to the invasion and occupation of Gaza, and a halt to all military and foreign aid to Israel. We urge our government to join with the U.N. to secure Israel’s complete withdrawal to the 1967 boundaries in compliance with international law.
